Meet Our Current Residents!

Hye Ri Han, PGY-5: I was born in South Korea and grew up in Brooklyn where I majored in Biomolecular Science and master’s in biotechnology at NYU. I survived four cold winters for medical school in Jacobs School of Medicine at Buffalo, NY before making my coast-to-coast transition to sunny SoCal for residency after falling in love with the LAG+USC program as a rotating medical student. I am genuinely happy when I discover cute cafes with good coffee and good pastries (hard to get both right). I also have stage fright but love dancing in my room and singing in the car on my daily commute. Yoga and running are my exercise faves; my short- and long-term goal is to do goat yoga and run a marathon, respectively.

Derrick Lock, PGY-5: I grew up in SoCal and majored in Economics at UCLA. I worked in computational neuroscience for several years before completing medical school at Chicago Medical School (Rosalind Franklin University). I enjoy watching NBA basketball, watching highlights of NBA basketball, listening to podcasts about NBA basketball, and wondering if it’s too late to change careers. In my free time I love being a father/husband, attempting to bake edible cookies/croissants, participating in our resident union (CIR), and thinking of ways to implement quality improvement initiatives in clinic.

Seyi Omeh, PGY-4: Nigerian-born, I pursued medical studies in Hungary before settling in the United Sates. A proud parent of three. I love it here in Los Angeles! I enjoy quality time with my husband and kids, watching movies, mastering the art of non-competitive golf games at golf driving ranges, and savoring the city’s diverse culinary offerings.

Christine Yang, PGY-4: I hail from the land of corn, where I studied business and biochemistry at Indiana University-Bloomington. I completed my MD at Indiana University School of Medicine. After a lifetime of corn-based diet, I decided to expand my palate by moving to Los Angeles! Here, I’ve been able to eat my way through LA alongside my co-residents. I also enjoy playing pickleball, rock climbing, and summitting SoCal’s numerous mountain peaks!

Brittney Chau, PGY-3: I was born and raised in San Gabriel (626 in the house!), and I majored in Biology at UCLA before moving to the east coast for medical school at New York Medical College. I missed the SoCal sun, good Asian food/boba, and my family too much so decided to come back home, which was the best decision ever! My free time is spent hiking with friends, dying over cute animal videos, and dancing in my room to EDM and Kpop. I’m passionate about spending all the meal money we get, and my favorite things to get are Kombucha, acai bowls, and Hot Cheetos!

Justin Park, PGY-2: I come from Irvine, Orange County, and have been local since I was 12. Prior to that, I was born in Korea, lived there for 5 years, then spent 7 years in Vietnam. Unfortunately, I lost all my Vietnamese skills. I spent 5 years of my life in the Northeast, attending BU for med school and completing my intern year in Cambridge. I’m glad to be back at USC where I also did my undergrad studies previously (x2 Trojan!). I like to spend my free time playing golf, video games, and pursuing DIY woodworking projects – none of them which I am good at.

Amir Ahari, PGY-2: I was born and raised in the lively city of Tehran, Iran. After completing medical school, I moved to North America and eventually settled in Toronto, Canada. There, I pursued my interest in cancer research and earned a master’s degree in community health. Then, I took on a new adventure in Los Angeles. I am enjoying the sunny weather in Los Angeles while navigating residency challenges. Outside work, you can find me cooking up a storm in the kitchen, on fire, or indulging in outdoor activities like e-biking/hiking in the Santa Monica mountains or running along the Pacific coast. I’m also a sports enthusiast, particularly in fast-paced ones, such as hockey, basketball, and tennis. I love spending time with my family or immersing myself in books on personal development, entrepreneurship, and startup culture. Whether through reading or listening, I am always seeking to learn!
